Three Pacific Place Subway tunnel

We were the main subcontractor for the construction of this 300 meter long, 7.5m diameter, pedestrian tunnel in various ground conditions under a main thoroughfare in Hong Kong. This was the most complicated project undertaken by Kane Tunnelling, as we had to incorporate different tunnelling methods at various stages of the work.

The work was carried out from the basement of Three Pacific Place, five metres from the MTR rail track and within six metres of water and gas services. System used was hydraulic breaker hand excavation, mechanical drill and blast methods, and pipe roofing at varying intervals along the tunnel. The concrete lining had to be carried out in conjuction with the excavation.
